Lincoln enjoyed meeting with the newspaper people and having his photograph taken regularly in the establishments along 7th Street. Twenty-five Lincoln sites are near this street between the Old Patent Office building and Pennsylvania Avenue. The 1840s Patent Office that hosted Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Ball is now the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. Tour meets inside the G Street (north) entrance of the Portrait Gallery. The walk is downhill and ends at the Archives-Navy Memorial Metro station.
